The most common theory about the name of Venetian blinds, is that the style was popular in the Middle East, and brought to Europe by Venetian traders – hence the name.
Venetian blinds can be made from a really wide range of materials, but are most commonly wood, plastic (vinyl or upvc) or aluminium.
Because Venetian blinds are typically made from hard wearing, water resistant materials, they tend to be easier to keep clean than other types of blind.
A regular dust is often enough to keep them looking great, but you can also use a suitable cleaner or polish for the material. Wooden blinds can warp if wet, so a wood polish is a great cleaner for them.
For aluminium blinds, a gentle household cleaner should be suitable – but it’s important to remove any excess water after cleaning.
Plastic or faux wood venetians can also be kept clean with general household cleaners
Venetian blinds aren’t the best choice if you’re looking for thermal blinds, as there are gaps between the slats that let cold air pass through.

The cost of your blinds depends on measurements, so if you can give us an estimate for your windows, we’ll get you a free quote.
When we come out to measure your windows, we’ll bring a range of samples of the blind types you’ve expressed interest in.
Our sample books have a vast range of different designs and styles. And with much larger samples than you can get online or through the post, you get a much better representation of how each design will actually look in your home.
Turnaround times for venetian blinds are typically between 2 and 4 weeks.
